Celiac Disease – Gluten Free Diets
Filed Under (Disease, Nutrition, health) by cussy on 06-03-2010
Celiac Disease is real!
It affects many people and is the result of a severe and permanent allergy to gluten – a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats.
The lining of the intestine actually breaks down when in contact with gluten – even in small amounts.
Some people with Celiac Disease do not show as severe symptoms as others – and may even think that they just have a mild gluten intolerance. However since actual physical damage can be done to the villi in the intestinal lining, it is best to be tested by your doctor. There are two forms of test – a blood test and a physical examination via a gastroscopy/ colonoscopy to examine the intestinal wall.
The Celiac Gluten Free Diet site provides heaps of information about Celiac Disease, its causes and treatments. Many varied recipes are provided to enable the compilation of extremely tasty & healthy gluten free diets – without breaking the bank.
Become educated about Celiac Disease and you will be able to live a “normal” life – without the need to feel different from your friends.
